SLEEP

((( the boy )))

When I get some sleep
I pray to God that I start dreaming
Because reality is a place
That I don't mind leaving
Stay away from me
Or I swear that I'll start screaming
Because my bough is breaking
And my cradle will fall

I awoke one night
On a cold dark distant highway
I was walking somewhere
Somehow sometime someday
I could not recall
The reason for my dismay
But my bough was breaking

Found a place to sleep
In a secluded forest basement
I was sleeping softly soundly
Then suddenly the floor went... (BOOM!)
A girl appeared
She was tattered and torn
But she was Heaven sent
I had a sudden feeling
That my cradle would fall, fall
Fall, fall

I tried to leave her there
I told myself that I would never forget
And soon enough I went back to her
But it was too late
She had left the basement
Then I found her living, breathing
She was wonderful, happy not grieving
But she could not
Forgive my abandonment
She'll be sorry
Self-inflicted punishment kills

((( the narrator )))

He should have waited
For the spaceship to come
To take him back to where
He ventured out from
A rescue mission
From the place of his birth
It came to save him
From the sadness on Earth

It's too late
He went to sleep at last

(it's too late)
(he went to)
(sleep at last)
