I am the Superintendent
Of the Odessa Apartments
I have a place in the basement
It's safer under the pavement
I fix the first, second, third floors
But I'm afraid of the number four
It's one and three which is thirteen
The very thought makes me
Weak in the knees
When I was younger than my son
I lived on four and I fell from
A broken window that I made
I never wanted to defenestrate
I have a fear of falling from high places
I'm happy trapped in
Claustrophobic spaces
I'll walk up to three
To walk up one more would be
Too great a shock it would kill me
Know only three of the tenants
Of the four main apartments
Not counting mine in the basement
It's only me and my son and it's safe
The first and second don't interest me
But I'm intrigued by the girl in three
And I've yet to meet
The man on the top floor
'Cause I'm afraid of the number four
He's Mister M but I don't know
Who he is or what the M stands for
If my son knows he keeps it a secret
When I ask he changes the subject
But I'm just glad
He'll fix-it on the fourth floor
He'll even fix-it on the roof above four
I'll fix one, two, three
But four he'll fix-it for me
Son of the Superintendent
My son's in love with the girl in three
My only hope is it's meant to be
Like me with my wife before she died
It was so long ago but we still cry for her
But not so much since three moved in
She's all he ever talks about
In his sleep, to his dreams, not to me
Siberia is the girl's name
My son he goes to the same school
The girl she looks like a cool one
Just like the Superintendent's son
